My life-changing experience

March-May 2018, I had the opportunity to volunteer for CCHD (Center for Cooperation and Human Development) in Vietnam. After saving enough money in Los Angeles, I flew off to Hanoi. I didn’t know that I wouldn’t be back to mainland USA for 10 months. I was so scared, but the fears quickly dissipated once I met Dung Tran. I was hosted by Dung in his home on the
outskirts of Hanoi, where he introduced me to his amazing family (Mrs. Lan, Bean, and Mark).
In their beautiful home, you will meet other volunteers from across the globe- some of whom will change your life for the better. I can never thank Dung and CCHD (and Bia Hoi:)) enough for this life-changing experience. My perspective changed, and the introduction of open-mindedness became a positive factor for me in the months following
CCHD is an NGO, and serves the communities of Vietnam through social work, education, and bringing communities together for change. Through this organization, I taught elementary English to the children- in schools across rural N. Vietnam and the coast. This was my first time experiencing anything like this, and it set the course through the rest of my travels. If anyone ever had a sliver of interest in volunteering and/or traveling Southeast Asia, definitely check out CCHD ( https://cchd-vietnam.org/programs/ ) and the amazing work they’re doing!
